Legislation was signed yesterday that SBAM worked diligently on, which deposits $100 million more into the Unemployment Compensation Fund. This is the latest in a series of deposits to ensure that employers are not charged for fraudulent payments out of the Unemployment Compensation Fund during the pandemic. The legislation also helps crack down on fraud within the unemployment system. “This legislation represents sound fiscal policy to help get the unemployment system back on track,” says Brian Calley, President and CEO of SBAM. “The Unemployment Compensation Fund is normally funded by employers, yet they have no control over the amount or duration of benefits, the efficiency of operations, or fraud controls of the fund. This deposit is an acknowledgement that the depletion of the fund is not the fault of our small businesses.”
