Mike Marzano has been named Grassroots Coordinator and Policy Advisor in the Government Relations Department. “This new position reflects SBAM’s commitment to focusing the power of local small businesses across the state in order to make a positive impact on public policy, regulatory issues and economic growth,” says SBAM President and CEO Rob Fowler.
Marzano is a 2009 graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Political Science. After managing two congressional campaigns in the 2010 election cycle, Marzano worked as the Legislative Director for State Representative Rick Outman from 2011-2012. He most recently served as the Deputy Manager of Constituent Relations for the Executive Office of Governor Rick Snyder.
SBAM also announced that Scott Lyon, formerly Vice President for Small Business Services, has been named Senior Vice President. “Scott’s new title recognizes his impact as an experienced, insightful and effective association executive as well as his stature as a nationally-known expert on small business health care policy,” Fowler says.
Scott joined the SBAM staff in April of 2003. He oversees two for-profit companies (Small Business Insurance Services, LLC, and Small Business Administrative Services, LLC) that serve members of the Association. Both of these companies perform services on behalf of many of the more than 15,000 members of SBAM, and include a sponsored BCBSM/BCN health insurance program, COBRA, Section 125, HSA and HRA administration. Scott is also a member of SBAM’s government relations team related to health insurance and employee benefits at the state and federal level. He has worked at the intersection of health insurance, small business and government relations for nearly 30 years.
