Time is Running Out.
Now that the election has passed, the Michigan Legislature has returned to Lansing for the last session days of the year. The number one issue on their to-do list should be to implement common-sense changes to the Earned Sick Time Act.
The requirements of this act will go into effect on February 21, 2025, despite significant issues with the law that will micromanage employers, remove flexibility, increase costs for consumers, and will lead to fewer benefits for employees.
The Earned Sick Time Act, as written, creates uncertainty and unpredictability that will lead to the closure of businesses across the state, and is especially burdensome for small businesses. It is imperative that legislators act now to pass sensible revisions to the Earned Sick Time Act to ensure the health and success of small businesses throughout the state.
House Bill 6057 has already been introduced in the House to amend the Earned Sick Time Act and to implement the changes small business owners have been asking for. This bill will be the vehicle for changes to the Earned Sick Time Act and is not in its final form. Lawmakers need to know what changes you want in the bill, and that they should support it when it comes up for a vote.
