Michigan Agency for Energy issues Request for Proposals for 100,000 in grants for energy waste reduction, renewable energy products and services

Several opportunities are available for small businesses through the Michigan Agency for Energy:
The Michigan Agency for Energy, through the Energy Office (MEO) is offering financial assistance to qualified small businesses (≤10 FTE) to make investments in projects resulting in energy waste reduction in their manufacturing processes, or advance the development and/or manufacturing of energy waste reduction technologies.
The Michigan Agency for Energy (MAE) has also issued a Request for Proposals for $100,000 in grants to Michigan municipalities, public K-12 schools, hospitals, nonprofit organizations and small businesses for energy waste reduction and renewable energy products and services.
This is the first time that hospitals are included in the program.
Projects must benefit public sectors through energy waste reduction and renewable energy through implementing Community Energy Management (CEM) best practices.
These activities must result in cost effective upgrades that reduce operating costs for public building owners, support community development and local job creation, and free up capital to reinvest in communities over the long term.
Proposals are due by Aug. 31.
Applicant Eligibility Requirements
- Municipality, K-12 public school district, hospital, 501(c)(3) or small business (fewer than 500 employees) organization.
- Demonstrated experience working with local governments and/or other public building owners on efficiency and/or renewable energy projects.
- Physically located in Michigan.
- Must have or be developing a Capital Improvement Plan which incorporates energy planning.
Funding Amount
A total of $100,000 in funding is available. Applicants must provide a minimum match equal to 100 percent of the total requested grant funds, which can be in the form of cash or in-kind goods and services.
Reporting Obligations
- Meetings (in-person and/or by phone) with grant manager as needed.
- At minimum quarterly reports.
- Financial status reports supported by invoices and supporting documentation.
- Final report on grant outcomes and impact, addressing any potential benefits and cost savings resulting from the project.
- Building energy data reported through Portfolio Manager and shared with Michigan Energy Office for 12 months after project was implemented.
Key Outcomes
- Cost effective energy management upgrades that reduce operating costs for public building owners, support community development and local job creation, and free up capital to reinvest in communities over the long term.
- The project will work with municipalities, K-12 school districts, and/or hospitals to implement CEM best practices, increase use of energy data tracking through Portfolio Manager, develop a revolving energy loan fund template, and create case studies and/or templates on best practices implemented through CEM services.
