Kasich, who is a former member of Congress as well as the current two-term governor of Ohio, was in town at the offices of the Small Business Association of Michigan. While not yet a declared candidate, Kasich is widely believed to be readying a bid.
During his visit, Kasich argued Michigan would be a key state in the GOP presidential sweepstakes.
“Because it’s going to be early [the Michigan primary] and I think this is a great place for me to be because Michigan and Ohio are just so similar,” Kasich told reporters on his contention that Michigan will be critical in the selection of the 2016 GOP presidential nominee.
Ohio Gov. John KASICH is promising to be a visible fixture in Michigan should he opt to run for President.
“Because it’s going to be early [the Michigan primary] and I think this is a great place for me to be because Michigan and Ohio are just so similar,” Kasich told reporters on his contention that Michigan will be critical in the selection of the 2016 GOP presidential nominee.
Kasich was the guest of a Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) reception Tuesday and said he was planning on visiting with Gov. Rick SNYDER as well as making other stops during a daylong Michigan tour. This included an evening reception at Country House in Mason with the Ingham County Republicans.
The tour came the day after former Florida Governor Jeb BUSH formally entered the race and the same day real estate developer turned reality TV star Donald TRUMP officially entered the race. Trump has previously taken some shots at Kasich on Twitter, tweeting last month, “I now see John Kasich from Ohio — who is desperate to run — is using my line ‘Making America Great Again.’ Typical pol- no imagination!”
He then tweeted, “What people don’t know about Kasich- he was a managing partner for the horrendous Lehman Brothers when it totally destroyed the economy!”
