Letter from the President
Sometimes life comes full circle. Joining SBAM certainly seems like one of those occasions.
I started my career spending more than a decade in community banking, making small and middle market business loans to entrepreneurs and small businesses. It quickly became clear in that first career that the impact of our ecosystem of small businesses on our communities was profound. From there to the Legislature to the Governor’s office, helping small business has been a passion.
Just like you, I’ve seen the effect that bad public policy can have on our economic growth. But we have also seen how positive advancements in public policy can unleash extraordinary progress and opportunity. And that is where we stand today.
SBAM and our membership have been at the forefront of this revival. As we enter in to a new phase of leadership at the state level, I want to thank you for your part in helping to create an environment for success and ask you to join with us again as we work to defend the progress we have made and build on it.
I believe that we are uniquely well suited for effectiveness in an era of divided Government. SBAM is well respected across the political spectrum and we have a reputation for putting policy before politics. That is more important now than ever.
I look forward to partnering with you in 2019!
Brian Calley
