The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has launched its #SupportLocalMI campaign to help raise awareness of the impact we can make when we choose to support the Michigan small business community. According to the Michigan Retailers Association, Michigan residents sent $18.5 billion to out-of-state retailers in 2017. If only one in 10 out-of-state purchases were switched to local stores, Michigan would gain $1.2 billion in increased economic activity, creating 10,600 new jobs.
The resources compiled offer quick access to a variety of small businesses in the retail, restaurant and travel industries. Please use these resources for your own business, if applicable, and as your #SupportLocalMI.
Small business owners can also take the “Pure Michigan Pledge” and commit to following safety guidelines to keep your employees and customers safe. Learn more here.
Now more than ever, small businesses in Pure Michigan need our support. By using these resources to shop, eat and stay local, you can help Michigan workers, businesses and communities thrive this season while finding everything you need.
Our vibrant downtowns are filled with local shops specializing in décor, fashion, pet toys, hardware and more. For the craft beverage lover, Michigan’s beer, wine and spirits can be found throughout the state at brick-and-mortar shops and local grocery stores. If you’re a bibliophile, charming, independent bookstores overflow with page-turning stories and gifts. Don’t forget to refuel at Michigan coffee shops and get a bag of beans to enjoy at home. Send a delicious meal to loved ones while supporting local restaurants by sharing a gift card or dropping off a carry-out order—or stop in one of Michigan’s delectable candy and fudge shops for a treat. You can also gift a relaxing stay-cation at local lodging options to get a break from the daily routine at home.
We hope you’ll join SBAM in the #SupportLocalMI initiative.
